THIS OLD HOUSE
This old house has sure been good to me.
It’s solid and it’s lonely, and it’s where I want to be.
This house is like and island; the fields are like the sea.
So welcome to my home sweet home.
This old house has stood the test of time.
My Dad spent all his life here, and I’ll spend all of mine.
It’s just a simple farmhouse. It’s rough and unrefined.
But welcome to my home sweet home.
Did you know I was born right here?
Right in this very room.
I have lived here all my life,
Though I may be leaving soon.
I carried Ruthie through that door
Near 50 years ago.
Thank God that she’s not here.
Thank God she’ll never know.
This old house is shelter from the cold.
And shelter from the changes as I am growing old.
But changes are in motion that cannot be controlled.
A change upon my home sweet home.
This old house is only wood and stone
But changes are upon us that cut me to the bone.
I’m sorry to be leaving, but not sorry to be gone.
Going to my home sweet home.
Please turn the lights out when you go.
